A steel coiled tube manufacturer engaged Clark Engineers to do a new spool design based on the geometry provided by the client. Clark Engineers calculated loads to spool drum due to winding of the steel tube onto the spool. The spool and loads were modeled and analyzed, and it was determined that the drum stiffening angles sizes needed to be increased slightly to control hoop buckling. The rest of the design was determined to be adequate.
